DVD and Video Formats of the World.

We are receiving a lot of inquiries on this subject. Whereas many of the newer and slightly more expensive DVD players can handle the different formats offered for differed regions in the world, there still are many that can handle just one format. The format describes how the electronic data of a movie are recorded on the disc and how the TV-sets display the movie. These formats are in use today: NTSC, PAL and SECAM. The differences are the reult of parallel development of the TV technology in different countries. The US, Canada and Japan are using NTSC format. Europe (except France and Russia) as well as the UK and Australia use mostly PAL format. France, Russia and some Eastern European countries use the SECAM format.
